What You'll Learn
- Read MEP drawings, specifications, BOQs and tender documents, and tell Civil QS work apart from MEP QS.
- Measure HVAC ducting, chilled water, plant rooms, AHUs and FCUs to SMM, SLS 573 and POMI.
- Take off water supply, drainage and sewerage, then build plumbing rate breakdowns.
- Quantify fire protection and fire alarm systems, including devices, cabling and BOQ descriptions.
- Measure power, lighting, cables, containment and ELV systems from layouts and schematics.
- Prepare an MEP BOQ in Excel, with AutoCAD tips for drawing reading and a mini final project.

| Day 02 — Introduction to HVAC / MVAC Systems | Split, VRF/VRV, package and central AC, chillers, cooling towers, AHU, FCU, pumps and plant rooms, layout and schematic reading. |
| Day 03 — HVAC Ducting Measurement and Quantity Take-Off | Supply, return, exhaust and fresh air ducts, area calculations, SMM/SLS 573/POMI duct measurement, dampers, grilles, diffusers, louvers and flexible ducts. |
| Day 04 — HVAC Chilled Water System Measurement | Chilled water supply and return, pipe materials, insulation and cladding, valves and gauges, schematic and layout take-off to SMM, SLS 573 and POMI. |
| Day 05 — HVAC Plant Room, AHU, FCU and Rate Breakdown | Plant room arrangement, FCU and AHU valve details, equipment schedules, material purchasing, and rate breakdowns for ducting and chilled water piping. |
| Day 06 — Plumbing System: Water Supply Measurement | Cold and hot water distribution, PVC, PPR, HDPE, GI, copper and stainless steel, valves, taps, pumps, layouts, risers and pipe coding. |
| Day 07 — Drainage, Sewerage and Plumbing Rate Breakdown | Soil, waste, vent and rainwater systems, manholes, traps, gullies and inspection chambers, drainage measurement and plumbing BOQ items. |
| Day 08 — Fire Protection Systems Measurement | Hydrants, sprinklers, hose reels and cabinets, extinguishers, clean agent systems, fire pump rooms, and take-off of pipes, valves and heads. |
| Day 09 — Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Quantity Surveying | Detectors, call points, sounders, strobes and panels, cabling and containment, device and cable measurement, BOQ descriptions and rate breakdowns. |
| Day 10 — Electrical System Quantity Surveying | Power and lighting, switches, sockets, fittings, DBs, MCCBs, MCBs and isolators, conduits, trunking, cable trays and ladders, and point take-off. |
| Day 11 — Power Cable, ELV and Schematic Diagram Measurement | Cable measurement, single line diagrams, cable schedules, CCTV, data, telephone, access control, PA and BMS basics, and electrical rate breakdowns. |
| Day 12 — BOQ Preparation, Excel Tips, AutoCAD Tips and Final Practice | MEP BOQ structure, descriptions, taking-off and summary sheets, queries, Excel and AutoCAD tips, common mistakes, and a mini HVAC, plumbing, fire and electrical BOQ. |

Udani Ayeshika is a quantity surveying professional with experience in consultancy, MEP projects, freelance practice and lecturing. Her work covers bills of quantities, cost estimating, tendering, payment applications and variations, using CostX, AutoCAD, Microsoft Project and recognised measurement and contract standards.
